NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY ACT
The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requires assessment of
environmental impacts for activities undertaken or regulated by the federal
government, occurring on federal land, or receiving federal funding. Preparation
of an Environmental Assessment (EA) is typically the first step in the NEPA
process. If the proposed activity has no significant adverse environmental
impacts, the NEPA process is ended with a Finding Of No Significant Impact (FONSI).
If the proposed project is found to have significant adverse environmental
effects, an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is prepared for review and
public comment. For the project to proceed, it typically is modified to reduce
the impacts to insignificant levels, or incorporates appropriate mitigative
measures that compensate for adverse impacts.
Our most recent NEPA experience includes preparation of EAs and FONSIs for the
following projects:
- A Greenway and Park Plan on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property in
Woodstock, Georgia;
- Construction of a golf course and casino on an Indian reservation in
Arizona;
- A greenway and trail system on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property
in Franklin, Georgia; and
- Multiple projects (tree clearing (2), sanitary sewer line, and
mosquito control) at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida
